Today was W's birthday so I went over to wish him a happy birthday and give him a little gift I'd gotten for him. It was great hanging out over there, just like the old days. He worked on a painting and we talked about life and painting and everything in between. He was expecting some collectors at 5pm, so I cleaned up the studio for him so he could keep working on the painting.

I was tickled to see that he's introduced a hard diagonal line in his latest piece, echoing some of the visual language that I use in my own work (he's never used a hard line like that in his work before). I think it looks fantastic:

He's going to watch Rommel for me while I'm away in Germany this week, which is cool. It'll be interesting to see how Rommel adapts to living free in W's cavernous studio with 5 other parrots.

I need to do laundry and start packing.
