Pink metallic ink will cure my insomnia

I couldn't sleep last night so I got up and soaked some sheets of news paper in pink metallic ink for use over the long holiday weekend. I also rubbed linseed oil onto the surface of the new painting to seal it and make the patches of exposed newspaper transparent. So now the colors beneath show through even more; it's really vibrant.

It was around 1:30 by the time I'd done all that but I was still way too antsy to fall asleep, so I had a couple beers and read a few chapters of the De Kooning biography I've been reading over the past several months. It's a huge tome, but I'm totally engrossed. I finally got to sleep around 3.

I think I'm going to toss out the smaller piece I began last month. I set it aside so I could focus on the big piece, but after working for the past month on a custom built canvas I really can't fathom going back to working on some factory made thing. So fuck it, into the trash it goes, and I'll build another couple canvases. I stretch those damn things tighter and use far better materials than anything you can buy pre-made in an art store. And besides, if I really want these things to be archival and hang in galleries I'm going to have to go the extra mile to make them completely kick ass, both inside and out.
